    Question MSDAORA Reported an error

    Help appreciated please.

    Th error below was generated when access to ORACLE linked server is attempted in SQL Enterprise Manager.
    Server:Msg 7399, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
    OLE DB Provider MSDAORA reported an error.
    [OLE/DB provider returned message: Oracle error occured but error message could not be retrieved from Oracle.}
    OLE DB error trace [OLE/DB Provider 'MSDAORA' IDBInitialize::Initialize returned 0x80004005:].

    I run SQL 2K SP3 on WIN 2K SP4. The error seems to dissapper when the server is rebooted or SQL Server service is restarted. I ran identical server to this with identical Microsoft OLEDB Oracle drive with no access error/issue.

    Please help with a permanent fix.

    Thanks for your help.

    Oracle drive does not work with linked server. As you have already found out Microsoft driver for Oracle works.

    Thanks for your response.

    I use Microsfot OLEDB Provider for Oracle driver. The issue is intermittent in nature. It works for so long then it errors. On restarting SQL Services it works again. Sometimes on its on it start to work.

    Help appreciated.
