    Access .mde Security Issues

Hello. I have a dozen or so users who are using Citrix to log into a .mde Access database. This database has no linked tables, simply a .mdb version in the same directory. It has user level security also. The problem is when a particular user logs in and then exits again, the .mde file security is taken over and the administrator has to give everyone back their permissions in Windows Explorer under the file security tab. Any suggestions?

are you talking windows permissioning here or access permissioning ?

if windows try granting permission to the folder the files are in and the files should inherit those permissions.

if access security i am confused by your question i am afraid.

I am talking about Windows permissions. Once a user goes into the database and then exits, the Security tab under the file properties no longer contains the user groups that were in it prior to the user accessing the database. I do have the database secured with a .mdw file, but it is STRICTLY to obtain user names to store with record modifications, there are actually no permissions set up. Thanks!

    found the solution..

if you are using access 2000:
go into the profile and change the folder permissions on the TEMP directory to inc authenticated users of each user in the docs and settings folder

the prob is happening when the db compacts and a temp file is created.

i wanna find a way to change the default setting for the temp folder to inc auth users.. if you know how to do this let me know

    thanks,

    jack

I changed the permissions on C:\Windows\TEMP to include my user groups but the same problem is still happening. Did I add permissions to the correct TEMP folder?

You need to change the permission on these temp folders:

    C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Local Settings\Temp

    do it for each user
