We have SQL6.5 installed at our site, with others installed at various military bases across Canada. One of
The servers are NT4.0 SP3.

One of our bases has a problem that's being passed around from NT to SQL people.
The error codes in the log are:

ODS error: 17824, severity 10, state 0 - 'unable to write to ListenOn connection
'\.pipesqlquery', loginname 'afems_user', hostname 'CE0307'.'

Also, right after this one, error 109, 'The pipe has been ended' appears several times,
then error 232, 'the pipe is being closed'.

After all those above, the last in the series is error 1608, severity 21, state 2 - 'a network error
was encountered while sending results to the front end. Check the SQL server error log for
more information'.

The NT Application log contains errors:

Source: SQLCTR60
EventId: 7
Description: DB-LIBRARY error - SQL Server message: Login failed

and

Source: SQLCTR60
EventId: 8
Description: DB-LIBRARY error - Login incorrect

These two messages repeat themselves in the log every minute, so it's becoming very frustrating for them.

All indications seem to be Performance Monitor counters, but they claim that this was not set up
and is not used. This is a small server, with only one database (700MB), but we can't seem to
get to the bottom of the cause of the problem.

I'd appreciate any advice on helping them.
