All,
I need a help from you all. I am getting this error if the users are running the application which is connecting from MSAccess97 to SQL Server 2000.
Error: [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]Communication link failure
I would appreciate if you send me the resolution for this problem.

I've seen all kinds of errors in this kind of scenario, but this one is new to me.

Sounds like a low level connectivity problem i.e. the user's PC can't reach the server on which SQL is installed. What kind of network situation are you talking about? Are they on different subnets (or networks), are there any FIREWALLS in the way? Is there some network administrator who's running around closing doors that you need to keep open (probably without telling you - but then he would say that it was your job to tell him you needed those doors!)
