    Restore a DB

    Hello, I am brand new to MS SQL and have 3 questions.

    When you restore a database .bak file do you or should you delete the existing data base first?
    Also dose there even have to be an existing database to restore to?
    Does a restore wipe out existing information in a database and make it an exact duplicate of the bak file?

    Restore can overwrite an existing database, so there is no need to drop the existing database.

    No, you can restore a backup without an existing database.

    Yes, restore overwrites existing database.
