    Creating a new database from backups

    Does anyone please have any idea how to create a new oracle 10g database from my backups using RMAN ?

    Well, the answer to your questions, "that depends"... it depends on the type of backup you did using RMAN.

    I believe, though I've not tried it in all cases, that any backup type can be restored, but you will need different things for different backups.

    For instance, if you had RMAN do an image copy, it would be relatively simple to create a new database; restore the files, change the controlfile, restore, recover.

    Other types will usually require a "baseline" to start from, like a cold back up and subsequent incrementals, etc.
