Analysis Services Newbie Question re: Data Sources

Which "data source" option in SSAS is best when hitting data contained in the MSSQL Server 2005 RDBMS? Also, assuming that it is not "ODBC," how does the best option differ from ODBC?

I'm a newbie to AS, just getting started, and trying to correlate the concepts with my Oracle (minimal) and DB2 (a little more) experience, as I need to get up to speed on SSAS for a new client project ...

    Thanks!

    Data Source Selection, Etc.

First of all, congratulations for choosing the integrated Microsoft BI solution! You will find that it meets, and very often exceeds, the capabilities of any integrated solution on the market today.

The data source option for your needs will be the default, SQL Native Client. SQL Native Client is designed to leverage the power of MSSQL Server 2005, and, to answer your extended question further, acts to combine the features of the ODBC and OLE DB providers that preceded it.

Let us know how you’re new project progresses!

    Bill
