    Remote Backup of MS SQL

    Hi,

I'm looking for a bit of advice about the best way to make automatic remote backups of a MS SQL server.

I currently run a dedicated windows 2003 standard server that i have complete control over, but my databases are hosted on a shared machine that i have no control on.

Is there a way to automate backups from the SQL database onto the windows machine?

Any suggestions on how to do this would be appreciated!

Talk to the systemadmin/DBA who owns the Shared SQL Server box. He/she can automate the copy those databases backups to your machine or the DBA can automate the backup job to backup the database directly on to your machine using UNC path.

cheers for that - are there any alternatives to this method should the admin be unwilling to set up such a thing at their end?

    Possible.

Depends on how much rapo you build with the system admins and also depends on the company policies and security concerns.

BTW. why you need those backups on your machine?
