    Compacting Database

For the life of me, I can't get a database in Access97 to compact. It used to compact before. I have changed all permission and have done everything Microsoft has suggested in the Knowledge database and I still can't compact it.

I get the following error message:

Record(s) can't be read; no read permission on '<filename>'.

    Please help.

    THANKS!

Create a new Database then import all elements from the old one (get external data). This will solve your problem.

Thanks for your help! However, I have done that, now it's saying that another user is trying to change the same data even though no one is on the database

    Any other ideas??

Copy the original database file and compact the copy.

    Unhappy

I have tried your suggestion, but the copy won't compace either.

I know which table it is having problems with. Is that anything I can do at the table level?

Thanks a million for the help in advance.
