% performance impact if use varchar instead of char?
Hi,
Anybody have any idea howmuch % of performance will be affect if we are using varchar instead of char data type?.

It's a classic design choice flame. With SQL 2000, the engine handles varchar field that allow null differently from that does not allow it. So it's really hard to get a number.
As a convention I use varchar when length is not fixed.

Depends on column length, don't make sense to use varchar(10) for instance.
