    Question Hard drive status

    Hi,
    I have ran
    1. xp_fixeddrives and got the result
    drive MB free
    ----- -----------
    C 1708
    D 16311
    2. I ran Backup Wizard in EM and able to see only above drives

    3. But if ran backup in EM able to see more than 10 Drives(like C,D,H,I,J,M,N and etc).
Why I can able to see those difference?.
How do I find out exactly how many drives are there in this server without directly going to that server?.
    I appreciated your valuable answere.
    Thanks,
    Ravi

xp_fixeddrives should show right results. check physically whether it has such drive letters assigned.

    1. use tools like Hyena. or
    2. Start-run- compmgmt.msc - select the server and see the real drives

If you have mapped network shares on the server while logged in as the sql server account, then you may see network drives in the list.

    Mak,
Thanks for the info. I have relogin my local system and checked in Directly on server it showing up only C and D drives. Some how that time it was shoing the shared folder also in BACKUP in EM.
    Thanks,
    Ravi

may be it was showing your (workstation's) local drives and mapped drives as skhanal said.

Are you sure you were trying to take backup on the server? In EM did you click on the server name or on the local sql server name.

master..xp_fixeddrives shows only local drive correctly.

Though there are 2 mapped X and Y drives for daily and monthly, from sql analyzer, not showing up. But my jobs are running and write the backups to X and Y finely.

Thus, the xp_fixeddrives may not be applied to non-local drive. Why this xp is not in the BOL?
