    Restore Database

    Hello, every one,

    I am new in SQL. I have a SQL7 back up file from a sql server, now I want to restore the file with extension .bak onto another server, but I got a message says " Device error or the device is offline ". Can any one give me some help one this.

    Was the backup copy from another SQL7 database? If it is, it is not compatible.

    Otherwise, there shouldn't be any problem.

    The big question is:

    How were you trying to 'restore' ... via SQL code or Enterprise Manager?

    At what point do you get the error?

    Try restoring via EM (right-click database, all tasks, restore) and click the View Contents button once you have nominated the correct file via 'Select Devices' (after selecting 'From Device&#39.

    Does it show the contents of the file?

    If not ... corrupted backup or not a SQL 7 backup file.
