    SQL 7 INSTALLATION ON WIN`98

I am trying the SQL 7 STANDARD installation on WIN`98. However, it creates the directory structure on the hard-disk alonwith files but on connecting to server it comes out with a VC++ assertion failed message.

The TCP/IP sockets are being used and the TCP/IP port (local ping) is working fine. Windows 98 was installed again and there are no prequisites for SQL 7 on 98 but the problem persists !

Anyone who has installed it on WIN`98 ?

    TIA

When you do install - check out the readme - there is a dcom app that you need to install on some systems. That might be causing this error.

    Steve:

Thanks for responding. This was the error I got :

    DESCRIPTION
After the "Connecting to Server" dialog, I get an error dialog:
    "Assertion Failed!
    Program: c:mssql7inncnfgsvr.exe
    File: ../src/dqlsspi.c
    Line: 119
    Expression: Count"
When I select the "Abort" button, setup stops.

It say Error: 17826, Severity: 18, State: 1 in the error log.

Its something to do with the "client for MS networks" installation. I did this once again and the Server connected.

I also had problems loading SQL 7 STANDARD on Win98. It seemed to crash when trying to install the ActiveX components. I tried installing 3 times and it crashed at the same point each time.

If helpful, I could look up what the exact error message was that I got.

This is rather frustrating since the uninstall program didn`t get installed.
