    Orphaned Connections

On SQL 6.5 we have had a couple of instances recently where an orphan connection cannot be killed and the only way to get rid of it is to stop and start the service. Does anyone know of any other way to get rid of that orphan connection?

    Orphaned Connections (reply)

we have this issue on some servers. in the past trying to kill the sessions only suceeded in crippling SQL server until it had to be restarted, so now we leave them. if the sessions are not doing any real harm then leave them alone as SQL removes them every 2 hours (this time can be reduced to as little as you want by changing the setting in the registry - see technet for details).

    cheers

    derek
