Basic question me thinks

Hi All,

May i first apoligize for the basicness (if thats a word) of this question but i am very new to RS.

I have played with RS and made a sucessful report.

Now i want to only show records matching a selected option from a drop down list. The list will come from one of my fields so i know i will need a SELECT DISTINCT somewhere, oh i have made a report parameter which made the list but it did nothing.

So on report entry, user see no data, selects one of the options from my dropdown and clicks the view button and bingo is shown a list that matches the selection they made.

I know its basic, more a "hello world" but i know once i get this working i can then figure out the rest, i think.....
