I use Reporting Services 2k5 with Analysis Services 2k data sources all the time. I have found the flexibility here to be excellent, as it allows us to stage the upgrades of the individual layers of the integrated Microsoft business solution. An example where this might come in handy would be a situation where we might want to do prospective report development in RS2k5, while a MSSQL Server 2k database under consideration cannot be migrated until we receive compatible releases of the applications running on it (which will themselves soon support MSSQL Server 2k5, but which now do not.)
I often find myself in situations where a client maintains both AS2k and AS2k5 cubes, as well. Reporting Services 2k5 manages both data sources quite well (excellent as a parallel testing scenario, too), as long as we keep in mind the proper alignment of the data sources, etc.
Good luck, and let us know if you have any specific questions as you proceed. Check out my MSBI Series' here at Database Journal for ideas and general practice with the apps:
