Installation error with MS SQL Server 6.5 Enterprise Edition

I am in the process of installing MS SQL Server 6.5 Enterprise edition
on a Gateway 9000R server. At the end of the install, I receive an error
stating that the install was unsuccessfull and that "A Service Control
Manager error occurred #SCM3 - 1057".

Does anyone have an idea what this error means?

The MS SQL Server and Enterprise Manager services are not listed in the
server WinNT Services program listing.

The server is running Windows NT 4.0 Enterprise edition with SP4 installed.

Any information would be greatly appreciate.
