want to know about oracle Instalation

Dear sir!
Myself is Atul saurabh.I am a new user of oracle.
I want to install ORACLE-9i on my machine.
The problem I am facing is :
I am using WINDOWS XP SP-2.When I install oracle-9i
it requires two informations
a) Global DataBase Name and
b) SID
What are those?
As expalined in oracle help file Global DataBase Name is a name in the format of name.Domain.My machine is a standalone one.Then what will be the domain name.
And there is another problem.When the installation finished oracle says that Global DataBase name and SID are optional.
After that when a open sql*plus it requires host name.What will be that.
Please help me
