I have some questions about Oracle.....

I've loaned the install disks for the trial version of Oracle 8i lite and Oracle Forms 6, from my uni computer department. When I installed the program, I went to the SQL PLUS 8.0 option on my desktop. A login box appears and asks me to enter my details. the guy at the counter gave me a sheet of paper with the login details on. when I try to log in from my home machine, the computer tries to connect to the internet. When I let it do so, it brings up the login box again.
in the background a message reads: " ERROR: OCA-30002 ubofscr Function not supported ". it just won't let me in?...
All I need the program for, is to work on an '.SQL' file saved on my disk. I just need to be able to load up the file, and add new tables, edit tables, enter data into the tables and run commands like 'select * from table'. Thats all!.
Can anybody help?
Does anybody know of an easier way to do my SQL?
