Installation problem!! General network error,connection open error.

After installation SQL server 7.0 on a stand alone box,while registering the local server,I am getting
'General network error.connection open.Check your network documentation' error.
I am getting the same error
I troubleshooted around the client network utility by changing the options,but didn't help.Any ideas?
