i backed up a DB from a server and restored it on a different server.

after which

people accessing this were getting the following errors

What DBMS? How did you restore?

it MSSQL restored it using enterprise manager back up restore function

What's your sql version? Do both servers have same version and sp level? Any erro during restore? Any error to access existing db on target server? Is user id used a valid db user?
