resetting a memo field

I hate it when I do that (press the enter key when I should press the tab key)

I am trying to figure out how to preset a memo field with a field from another record. I have been successful using text strings but the program bombs using a memo field. I hit the 255 char limit. It must run without operator input. Any Ideas?
