Can you Ghost SQL Server?
I use Ghost and Sysprep to image the OS and core apps, but have never Ghosted the PC with SQL installed.
Is it necessary to restore the image to a drive THEN install SQL (as I currently do), or can I be lazy and Ghost the whole thing?

Backup the desired database. Make a copy of the .mdf and .ldf(if desired). When you want this database or need it restored, attach the copy and you'll have it minus any additions to the database after the backup.

You did not say if you could afford to shutdown your SQL Server. If you can, you could ghost it then.
Same as previous response, when you restore the ghost image, you won't have any updates applied since the ghost image was created.
