Hello:

I am reviewing our backup strategy.

The application, running on mssql 6.5, sp4, involves long-running transaction intermittently during a given month but particularly so at month-end as this is a financial application written in Powerbuilder.

I have been thinking of including the dumping of the transaction log several times a day but I am concerned about the effect of a long-running transaction when the log has to be dumped. The result will probably hang the transaction or the dump; neither being the desired result. It's difficult to determine when the transaction willocur most times.

1) Has any one experienced something like this with long_running transactions and log dumps?

2) Any other thoughts on this?

Thanks.
