What is PKM?
I've noticed that when I do an sp_who2 during times when my server is running slow, I see multiple entries for...
Program Name: PKM
Login: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM
DBName: master
We don't have an application called PKM and I suspect it's generated by SQLServer or the operating system. I've not been able to find any information about it.
Anybody have a clue?

Looks like a 3rd party tool to me.

See whether any services is running on that server like PKM
if you do a select * from sysprocesses you can find the host machine.

I'm still reviewing the articles you referenced. The host server is the database server. SDCNTS08 is the host server. It is also the database server. I've looked at the services that are running and don't see anything like that at all.

See what kind of queries it is sending to sql server. May be this will give you a clue.
I suspect it must be some windows tool like performance monitor. Do you have HP Open view on the server?

choices:
If you really dont want PKM to be hitting your sql box
1. go to the server - task manager - see any process related to PKM and try to kill it.
2. go to the server - start - run - regedit and press F3 search for PKM. find the path and delete the files and path. (Warning: updating registry is very dangerous). Ask Network admin for assitance.
3. go to server - start - search -files or folders - search for PKM. see whether any uninstall executables are there.

What's spid for this process? If spid is > 50, it's user process and you can find host name it runs on with sp_who2.
-
SPIDS are greater than 50. I know the host_name. The host is the database server itself.

I reviewed the Registry, and there are no references for PKM. I looked for files and folders containing PKM and there are no files/folders with PKM.
There were no TaskManager Processes that looked like likely suspect.
Im running profiler to see if I can capture more info. when they appear.

Or run 'dbcc inputbuffer (spid)' to see the command used.

Did you install SharePoint Portal Service on the server?
-
SharePoint is not installed.
